Gautama
Gautama Divine Balinese & Siamese is a boutique cattery in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. We became a registered cattery in 1995, breeding Balinese at that time. After a short while, we also included Siamese in order to increase our gene pool as the Balinese in Australia were very limited; and still are.
We are an integrated cattery, which means we use a mixture of natural, and mainstream philosophies and have a holistic approach to the welfare of our animals. We feed a natural diet, with red and white meats, both minced and chopped, fresh raw chicken wings, and a small measure of grains and vegies, such as they would find in the wild; A cat’s natural prey is birds, rodents and rabbits – all of which eat grains & veggies and which, in turn, the cat would eat.
We completed a feline genetics course with Cornell University in the USA which has given in-depth insight to cat breeding that would never have been had and since then have developed a further understanding of genetics and presented several lectures and talks over the years on the subject, culminating in writing a book of our own on feline genetics that is still used today within the Australian cat community.
As Group One Judges, we had the opportunity to travel and judge many cats across Australia and enjoyed our assignments very much. But at the start of 2011 we decided to retire from judging while also semi-retiring from showing and have spent our time since, devoted to our cats and our home.
Gautama ceased breeding in 2020 and our babies have all been neutered. We thank everyone for their support and the many loving homes that our babies have found over the years and are always happy to chat if you see us out and about.
